Who is Britta?
I am a seventh generation Oregonian who has lived in Newberg for the last decade. My husband and I have two children who we hope will call Newberg home for years to come. I am excited to step into a leadership role to help Newberg continue as a great place to grow, a place that understands its past and is ready for the future.
My professional background is in public history and nonprofit management. I have worked with a handful of local nonprofits and have studied the region's history. These experiences have given me a unique understanding of Newberg's culture. I am skilled at collaboratively working with small teams, tight budgets, and big ideas. I'm also passionate about relationship building, especially through face to face conversations; I believe this is key to a thriving community.
Why i’m running
I'm running for city council because I care deeply about Newberg and want to see it continue to flourish. I want to help it remain one of the safest cities in Oregon. I want to keep our roads and critical infrastructure in the best shape possible and ready for growth. I want to welcome new businesses to town so people can live, work, and recreate in Newberg. I want to keep local government focused on local issues.
American government has always fascinated me. This unique system allows for a great deal of both individual expression and unity. Each level of government, city, county, state, and federal, has a different role to play. Local government has the potential to impact the community on a daily basis. Curious about your water bill? Curious about upcoming community events? Your local elected official probably knows about them. This local focus has the potential for true community building and stewardship.
